Truth or Facts (#9)

We are entering into a presidential race and it seems to dominate the national news. Biden made another gaffe.  It was;  "we choose about truth, not facts,".   Much has been made of this today. Our President tweeted:  Joe Biden just said, "We believe in facts, not truth." I didn't hear it myself but either way are not truth and facts the same thing? I am not sure we believe in truth anymore. We use to say in a courtroom that we promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. When we search for truth don't we look for facts in the matter.  I really don't know what Joe Biden was trying to say. The truth matters or it should matter to us. I guess we were really spiritual in my growing up church, we would not swear to tell the truth but affirm to tell the truth. Because the Bible says not to swear.  But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. Matthew 5:34-35. Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple "Yes" or "No." Otherwise, you will be condemned.  James 5:12.   I really believe that the court of law is trying to do is to get us to tell the truth. I don't think it matters to God if we say the word swear or say affirm. I do believe it matters to God that we tell the truth.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor., is the ninth commandment. We believe in your truth or my truth, poor truth or rich truth, female truth or male truth and on and on. In a court of law or before God there should only be one truth and it should not matter if we are rich or poor, black or white, male or female. Truth should be factual, it should be the same whatever our station in life. The ninth commandment is not just meant for the courtroom, it is meant for life in general, whatever our cause my be.  Societies need truth. the real truth, God's truth. Not my truth or your truth, female truth or male truth. Truth needs to be the same, no matter who is telling it. It is necessary for society to survive. When people lie and or believe a lie, bad things happen. In Jewish law, if a person lied about a crime that would give someone a death penalty, they would receive the same penalty for that lie if and when caught. That shows how important truth is. I worry about our society when it is believed the end justifies the means. Truth is necessary for society to survive. Lies or believing lies cost thousands upon thousands of deaths in Nazism and communism, and then our slave trade was based on lies. We need Truth, we need facts, I think in reality they are made from the same cloth so I am not sure what Joe Biden was even saying.  God bless, LVZ.
