Getting Paid
We have at least 6 U.S. Senators (they still get paid) running for President and I think a couple of House Representatives running for the office of President. When was the last time you got paid to seek a new job for months on end? They each get paid $174,000 a year. That amounts to $1,392,000. Plus the average allowance per senator is 3,306,570; for six senators = $19,839,420. Representatives $900,000 average allowance, for two representatives = $1,800,000.This amounts to about $23,000,000 and they are at it for longer than a year. Add to that the amounts individual states are paying as their senators and representatives and governors and other state officeholders as they run to get reelected or for the next higher office. I remember struggling through a month of no pay in 1979 as I was trying to get a better job. Many of these are millionaires already. Somehow I think this is wrong and their pay needs to be docked for every day they are absent from their jobs. If they had to use their own money to get elected , or their campaign donations, I feel it would narrow the field. Docking their pay and term limitations would be two things that would greatly improve our congress. God bless, LVZ.
