Isaiah 23

H. (highlight)
   Isaiah 23:1 1A prophecy against Tyre:
   Tyre
E. (explain)
   This is a word of God spoken about the city of Tyre sitting on the Mediterranean Sea.
Isaiah lived in a time when Israel and Judah have strayed from following God. This is telling God's people what is going to happen to the city of Tyre. Tyre was a wealthy city in ancient days because of its location on the Mediterranean Sea. It had two natural harbors because of the Island off the coast at this spot. It had been attacked many times This prophecy against Tyre is also given in Ezekiel 26. Tyre survives many attacks against it until Alexander the Great comes along. Over time the city had built on the island thinking it was safer and able to defend itself. The mainland still supplied water and supplies to the island city. Tyre had been besieged several times for years and was able to stand until Alexander the Great came along. It took Alexander the Great seven months to conquer the city. He tore down and destroyed the mainland city, using the building blocks and timbers even the dirt down to the bedrock to build a causeway to the island. Over the years it has become a permanent causeway.  Fishermen use the bedrock on the mainland to spread their nets to dry. This fulfilled a prophecy against Tyre. Alexander fit the many nations because of his army was from many little city-states. The mainland was torn down to the bedrock.
A. (apply)
    How to apply this to our lives today. God is sovereign and what he says will happen,  will happen just as he says. God can be trusted. God wants us to trust him in every detail of our lives. He gives a very detailed word against Tyre, and it happens just as he says. If we look to the future there is a day of reckoning coming because God said so. You might say this is a warning to us to be prepared for the day of judgment that is sure to come.
R. (respond)
     How should we respond? By accepting Jesus into our hearts. That is the purpose for which Jesus was sent.  That all men (and women) might come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. This is a very interesting Prophecy, fulfilled down to details given.

To those who believe, no explanation is necessary;
to those who believe not, no explanation is possible.

Jesus is still accepted by faith. All kinds of explanation can be given but God is still a faith proposition. You can google the city of Tyre and find supporting documentation that the word of God is true. Doubters and unbelievers will still not believe. Faith is something we all have or can apply. It is available to everyone. Not all have money, or position or power, but faith is something everyone has and so by exercising that faith we can become children of our Heavenly Father. It is possible for anyone who will believe. If we will not accept the word of God, the Bible,  even if one is sent from the dead to warn us, we still will not believe. It is through the word of God, the Bible that we believe. We have what we need, faith, to believe if we will exercise it.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6
God bless, LVZ.
