God's Mirror
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26
We are made in the image of God. Every nation, every tongue, every tribe upon the face of the earth is made in the image of God. When God looks in the mirror does he see us? We look at the family resemblance of many that we know. I remember one day sitting in my car on main street in Arlington, WA. I was people watching as I waited for my daughter that was taking piano lessons. I saw a father / son come up to the street corner in front of me. You could tell they were father and son by their facial features. Then as the street light changed to allow them to cross, I saw them both look both ways at the same time. The father liked his lips and the son licked his lips at the same time and off across the street they went. Do we mimic God even in our actions? We should. God is a kind and loving God. Are we creative? We should be, our heavenly father is. I was listening to a friend of mine tell a story about a racoon. They have hunting land in the area and they set out game cameras to catch an image of what is coming up to their feeders. They had this corn feeder up on a stand that would turn a little wheel at the base of the feeder tank and spread a little corn at intervals. In a video that was caught in their game camera, they saw a racoon that climbed up a little sapling nearby and used it to bend over to the feeder. He was able to get the sapling to bend close enough to the feeder to get one paw on the feeder. The two hind paws were holding him to the sapling and with the other paw he reached over and turned the wheel again and again to let more corn on the ground. Pretty smart for an animal. But we humans are made in the image of a creator God that made these animals. We have an intelligence that is superior to these animals. I suppose sometimes we wonder when we see people that don't think things through. I saw a video of a busy street corner with a walk signal for pedestrians. I saw a young dog sitting there attentively watching the walk signal. I saw humans walk past him to check the street and sometimes they would step back because a bus or other vehicle would roll past. But the dog just sat there watching the walk signal. All at once the walk signal changed and the dog got up and walked across the street with other pedestrians. Pretty smart I thought. We are made in the image of God with the ability to write and think and process information. We are able to read and make judgements about so many things. Political and other wise above and beyond what these animals were able to do. It doesn't matter our political beliefs, our economic status, the color of our skin, our nationality, we humans are all made in the image of God. Pretty awesome to be made in the image of a God that can created animals like the Dog and the Racoon that were able to think and figure things out. If God looks in a mirror does he see us? Do we imitate and learn from our creator? God bless, LVZ.
