Serving God

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,  knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23
This morning my thoughts drifted to this verse and I thought about the many ways people serve God. I remember being 19 and thinking I had to be a preacher or a teacher to serve God. Over the years I have learned that we can serve God in many different ways. Some weeks back I went to a church security training, the instructor was a retired cop. He taught us some of his skills or tried to. We started of the afternoon session with prayer. Our purpose is to keep our church family safe in the event of a crazy lunatic deranged person entering our midst to harm us. He is using his skills from his career as a cop to help us. We see hurricane Florence heading to our shores and I saw on the news some Eight Days Of Hope of Tupelo, MS trucks headed towards the Carolinas. These were trucks with lifts on them to cut felled trees. People with chain saw skills will volunteer their time to clean up debris, and later carpenters, electricians, plumbers and roofers will volunteer their time to bless those in need of their skills. We will probably see Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's and others with truck loads of water and other supplies as needed hauled to the devastated areas. I often thought as I worked on airplanes, what am I doing for God. Well, Franklin Graham uses airplanes to haul supplies to different countries in need.  Global Outreach here in Tupelo loaded some supplies for medical teams going to a third world country. I was involved with some other men to move some pieces of furniture from a Doctors office that had retired to the Global Outreach office. One other way I felt I worked for God at an aircraft manufacturer was the stand I took many days to do what was right in the sight of God. It wasn't always easy and I came under fire for my stand more than once. I am sure I could go on and on but I think you get the point. I write and I hope my writings encourage others in their walk with God and to those that read these words that do not know God to find him. By the way when I say to find God, God is not lost, it is the people that are lost that do not know God as Savior and Lord. There are so many things we can do to bless God's creation. Farmers and Ranchers feed us and even they will donate some of their products to feed the homeless. So many ways to bless those made in the image of God. Radio operators in times of emergencies can use their equipment and skills to pass on messages and information. All these things can be done to serve the Lord, and if we give a cup of water in the name of the Lord to someone in need, we will not lose our reward. God bless. LVZ.
