Leviticus
I am reading in Leviticus, trying to understand what is the purpose for these words. I know the old Testament is type and shadow of things to come. I am reading about the sacrifices that need to be made to atone for sins. When people understand, come to realize they have sinned, they are to bring an offering to the Lord. Even when unintentional, when their understanding is gained that they have sinned, they are to bring a sacrifice. I was thinking about that, the responsibility to atone for sins. We know that when Christ died the old passed away and we are now living under grace. We no longer have to bring sacrifices to God on a regular basis. Jesus was the sacrifice for all sins, past, present and future for the whole world. We are covered when we come to Jesus and ask to be forgiven of our sins. Jesus was a one time sacrifice that covered it all.
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Romans 3:21-26
Jesus is the payment for our sins. It is through faith in Jesus that we are cleansed from our sins. When we realize we have sinned, we are to confess our sins. We are to bring it to God. There was a continual sacrifice, day after day after day, but a new and better way was given in the New Testament. Jesus the perfect sacrifice, did it all, for all, for past present and future. We just need to accept him as Lord and Savior. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Not by works but by grace, freely given to all who will believe in him. God bless, LVZ.
