A Ton Of Gold

24The total amount of the gold from the wave offering used for all the work on the sanctuary was 29 talents and 730 shekels, i according to the sanctuary shekel. Exodus 38:24
I am reading in Exodus in my devotional time. I know the word of God has a purpose. I also know I don't understand the purpose for everything I am reading. Today when I read the verse above I went to the notes listed for the verse above and I read some commentary. The note said a ton of gold was used in the making of the tabernacle parts, the altar, the ark of the covenant and all the bits and pieces for this tabernacle and the items in it. There is a lot of detail, so many things were made out of Acacia wood. Many things were covered with gold. there were parts of brass and silver as well as precious stones. Here are some thoughts concerning this. They are wondering through the desert with all their belongings. I know they had wagons and animals, donkeys and horses and perhaps other beasts of burden to carry the load. This is an amazing undertaking to move all these people and their belongings from Egypt to the Promised Land. Remember they did not leave Egypt empty handed. They borrowed gold and silver and all sorts of things from their Egyptian  neighbors. The Israelites, the family of Jacob /  Israel had been in Egypt 400 years and had grown to a very large group of people. They had children, and their children had children and their children's children had children. When you think of our country and how we have grown in population. These were offspring, we have foreigners come into our land but we have also aborted children to the tune of 60 million since 1973. But just think about this and this journey through the wilderness to the promised land. You have an amazing amount of people traveling on foot or perhaps on beasts of burden. The sons of Jacob made a couple of trips to Egypt from their homeland and was it a journey of days or weeks in comparison to this journey of 40 years. The journey was so long because of unbelief and God allowed the older generation to die off in the wilderness before they entered the promised land. The ton of gold was carried from Egypt. They had plundered Egypt when they left. Another thought is God is providing food and water for this group. There is much detail given on the building of this tabernacle and the ark and the altar and the curtains, the supports for the curtains. Is God also taking such pains to detail our lives through this journey to our Promised Land. Is he not providing even more than just basic food and water on our journey? I think of some of the things I enjoy through this life. Some times it is just interesting to watch Gods creation. It is elaborate, there is so much detail. Another thought is this long range planning of our God. He had the Israelites bring the gold, silver and brass with them. He supplied them with everything they needed. I read or heard somewhere that their shoes did not wear out on this journey. There are so many ways God provides for his people. A lot of detail God gives in these passages. He keeps a record of our lives. Is it this detailed? Nothing is hid from God. Is God this detailed in our hearts and lives?  then I look at President Trump and I think God spent a lot of time preparing this man for the current time. I know he drives people crazy, especially the left. But if he was a milk toast personality, he would not accomplish the things he has in such a short time. Once again I see the long range view of God. He is ahead of us and works all these details to accomplish his purposes. God is still sovereign, he is still on his throne involved in our lives each and every day. The universe keeps turning, season after season keeps coming. He is a detail God. He provided Israel with a ton of gold for their journey. It just seems amazing to me. God bless. LVZ.
