Mercy
For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. Galatians 6:15-16
This morning as I had my devotional time, I thought about mercy and how I have not received everything I deserve. There are consequences for our behavior, what we sow, we will reap. I have received mercy, and for that I am grateful. As I read the first part of this verse for neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, I know that God is not the author of the great divide in our country today. This reference to circumcision is referring to Jews and non Jews, and it is saying in God's eyes it doesn't count but what God is after is a new creation. He wants our hearts. God doesn't want us to obey rules but he wants our hearts to follow his rule. I really just wanted to touch on mercy but as I read this scripture and thought about the division in our country today, God is not the author of that division. God does not hold white or black to be better than the other. The Jews are his people, but he extends mercy to Jew and Gentile alike. As far as Israel goes, God keeps his promises and no where will you see that better than the way God has protected Israel against great odds. With new creation, when we allow God to recreate us anew, we are spiritual Jews and God is on our side. As for all who walk by his rule, peace and mercy be upon them. And note he continues and upon the Israel of God. I received mercy for so many things, and I am grateful to God. God bless, LVZ.
