Closing Accounts
This post is about forgiveness again. We all have debts owed to us; it is going to happen to us if we just live life. Someone somewhere is going to hurt you. If you do not cancel the debt, you allow a root of bitterness to grow in your heart. Like Andy Stanley says, if we told our story, friends would understand why we are hurt. Our stories make sense, people really do owe us, whatever the wrong is. If we do not forgive, we allow a root of bitterness to grow in our heart. As I was thinking about this I thought of a vegetable or flower garden and if you don't take care of it, weeds will grow. And after a period of time the weeds overtake the whole garden. Weed seeds, who even knows how they get started, they just do and most of the time they grow better than the good stuff. Our hearts are like that, they need to be weeded every now and then. I think that is what communion does, it gives us a chance to look over what is growing in our hearts and just like weeds, bad things in our hearts need to be pulled out. Our salvation actually hinges on us being able to forgive as Christ has forgiven us. We need to follow Christ's example in forgiving others. Unforgiven issues become a root of bitterness, a weed of the heart. Unforgiveness will move into the basement of our heart and start lifting weights. If we hold accounts open hoping the person that owes the account will pay up, we allow a root of bitterness to start growing. We as Christians need to close those account no matter what the other person does. Pull the weeds before they get a good root system going. Don't allow the sun to set on your anger, take care of it as soon as possible. Close accounts. God bless, LVZ
