Back Home

I am back home and I missed blogging, but I feel the need to change. I am a very political person and often I become political in my thoughts. I find in our world today it is very difficult to talk politics especially with someone of an opposite view point. But we need to talk and discuss things.  I do not believe this nation will survive without the back and forth between opposite views. Either political party as the only party will go too far and we need balance and that balance I believe comes from talking. We will not agree about everything. I was talking with someone recently we started off talking about the Civil War and how many in the south like to claim it was not about slavery but about States Rights, yet if you look at that history, the biggest issue with states rights at that time was the south wanted to keep slavery and the north was against it. It was about slavery, we agreed. Then a little talk about the Mississippi State flag and again I think we agreed. The flag has the confederate symbol in an upper corner and it needs to be changed without that confederate symbol that had a lot to do with slavery in the past and civil rights violations in the south. It needs to go to a museum and stay there. Our talk went on to President Trump and it started feeling awkward, voter ID and even more awkward. We don't have to agree on everything. But sometimes we do need to discuss issues. Why can't our political discussions be like motor heads discussing the positives of a chevy or a ford or a mopar. We have our favorites and we state our preference. I always liked the older ford engines because they had the distributer in the front versus the chevy having the distributor in the back. It was easier to work on. As the Chevy guy noted in the front it was more prone to get wet from radiator fluids and cause problems. Why can't our political discussions be like that?  But in our political climate the left doesn't want to hear the right and the right doesn't want to hear the left and if they think different then us they are idiots or low information voters etc.  But the two motor heads, one a ford guy and one a chevy guy could agree to work on either ones engine to fix something. We need to work together and we need to be able to discuss ideas in the political realm as well. I hope to stay off political stuff but yet as I just stated it is needed. Although I think pastors need to stick to the gospel. I know a pastor that is very liberal in his thinking and at the funeral I just attended, he made a simple reference to the present administration and because of the history I knew I didn't want to attend his church. I think pastors can lose a big bunch of people they could help spiritually if they stayed away from politics and just speak the word of God. I don't think we should know if a pastor is liberal or conservative, they will lose those in their congregation they could help because of their political statements. Yet didn't I just say discussion was necessary? But perhaps not from the pulpit in the church. Speak the word and if the word of God deals with an issue, let the word of God and God himself change a heart. So I am wondering if I need to be less political in my blog. It is the word of God that changes lives, not politics. A heart changed will also effect political thinking. God bless, LVZ.
