A Clean Heart
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10
Have you ever asked God to look in your heart? In the Bible is the parable of the woman that lost a coin in her house and she searches until she finds it. She diligently sweeps through her house lights a lamp and looks until she finds it. Are there things in our heart we do not want to bring into the light of day? 2 Chronicles 7:14 is a conditional promise where God asks us to turn from our wicked ways and he is actually talking to his people. "if my people who are called by my name", We are to humble ourselves, pray and turn from our wicked ways. Yes God's people are to do this. God's people, Christians are God's people. We Christians are to turn from our wicked ways. How can we do that if we are not willing to take a good look inside? Create in me a clean heart should be our prayer. Renew a right spirit in me, should be our desire before God. Have you ever asked God to look into your heart? I have and I think the uneasiness I feel today is a result of that prayer as God looks and perhaps is showing me an area of lack in my heart. It was there and God knew about it. I remember in different times of great stress when God used those times to show me something in my heart I didn't like to see myself and much less for anyone else to see. God does see and is willing to help us clean up areas of our heart if we ask. I do need God's help in this area of discomfort in my life.
and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God. Psalm 78:8
Is my heart steadfast towards God, is my spirit faithful to God? Or am I part of a rebellious and stubborn generation that thinks they do not need God? God looks to the issues of the heart as he prepares us for eternity. Dear God look into my heart, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit in me. God bless, LVZ.
