Post Election

As I think about losing the election, I wonder about why people vote for a candidate.  I hear different theories about why I lost. Some others expressed surprise that I lost and especially that I lost by such  a big amount. One theory is because I am married to a black woman. I really don't think that is the reason. But perhaps there were a few that wouldn't vote for me for that reason. One thing that crossed my mind is I felt God put this on my heart so I didn't work at it as hard as I needed to. I was looking for a way to serve my community. I believe I had good intentions. I believe I am a good person and a person of integrity. I have heard numerous people that have watched this man in the city hall meetings say he needs to go. Why do people vote for the persons they choose. I once heard a person wanted a man for President because they liked his hair style(John Edwards). We saw corrupt womanizer Bill Clinton get reelected after we already knew he was a rapist. We saw Anthony Weiner get reelected after we already knew what a scumbage he was. Many voted for Obama just because he was Black. Some will ask if I vote for you what will you do for me? Why do we really vote for the people we choose? I believe some didn't vote for me because I am conservative, and I voted for Trump. As I sit in these small town city meetings, and they discuss paying the city bills, or approving the previous meetings minutes. I have never been in one of their executive sessions where they discuss personnel matters. Or perhaps they decide to apply for a grant for police equipment. They discuss the budget or perhaps a citizen requests a break on their water bill because of a problem that happened on the city's side of the line. A person has an old building and it violates the set back requirements and he wants the city counsel to approve a variance.  A citizen wants an ordinance created to outlaw the firing of weapons in the city limit. As I think of the many different issues that come before the city counsel, what issue does my conservative principles prevent me from making a good decision for the citizens of my community.  Or what does my being married to a black woman prevent me from making a good decision when I vote with other board members? I was born in South Dakota and spent many years in Washington State.  I moved here because I wanted to move south when I retired and my wife is from Nettleton. How does that affect my decision making ability when it comes time to vote on an issue? OR how does knowing or not knowing Verona was the first chartered town in Lee County in July of 1860?  Does knowing Elvis Pressley's parents were married in Verona make me a better Alderman? Does being a person of integrity matter? Does having a servants heart matter? Does building a new home in the city limits of Verona matter? Does my birthplace being Eureka, South Dakota mean I cannot be a good alderman? This person that I ran against used some of these things to advise my neighbors to not vote for me. What do we really want in a person we vote for to represent us on the Alderboard? God bless, LVZ.
