The ninth Commandment

Can anyone really obey the ten commandments? In listening to Bill Wolfson on the ten commandments, I have much to think about. In the ninth commandment  "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor". As Bill says, these ten commandments are the 10 biggest areas of struggle in our lives. The law was our schoolmaster, the law showed us we failed. The law needs to be written on our hearts. But don't we all struggle with all the commandments? This commandment: are you keeping this commandment when you gossip? How much negative stuff do we (I use the word "we" to include myself) pass on that we see on the internet and we have no idea if it is true or not. We pass it on. It might be negative about Obama or Hillary and we don't know its true. Perhaps your a liberal and you saw the post that claims George Bush converted to Islam, and passed it on.  How about flattery, Bill described it as something you would say to a persons face that you would not say behind their back.  Let me qualify my blog for a minute. I do want to improve my life. I listen to Pastors,  teachers and others expounding the word of God that I can learn from it and add it to my life. Blogging helps me think about the sermon I heard or perhaps a Sunday School teacher said something that caught my attention. Maybe it was a devotional that I read that touched something in me. I don't feel I am trying to steal their material. I am talking about it and learning and trying to apply it to my life. I sinned, I have had issues with these commandments. Have I ever held back part of what I knew to give a different slant to something I said? Yes. Have I ever exaggerated? Yes, again. Have I ever gossiped and passed on something I didn't really know if it was truth or not? Yes. Bearing false witness, or slandering. I remember vividly the time I passed on an internet story about Bill Clinton. I had no idea if it was true. I didn't like Bill and still don't. The story went this way, Bill was talking about his faith and stated his favorite scripture was God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son.... and gave the scripture reference as John 16:3 instead of John 3:16. John 16:3 says something about because they do not know him. But I finally realized, this had been sent about Al Gore, Bill Clinton, John Kerry, and even George Bush. It is one of those internet stories someone makes up and passes it along to make a person they don't like to look bad. Then the story gets changed with new names the next election and we pass it on. Recently their was a story about Obama and cattle guards, I think this is the same thing a made up story to make Obama look bad. I didn't pass it on and replied that I didn't even think it was true. I am not an Obama fan, but I love Jesus, and I want to try and be like him. Jesus would not pass on a false story. Something to think about, bearing false witness is more than what happens in a court room under oath. The commandments need to be written on our hearts. God bless, LVZ.
